Musica Alta Ripa was founded in 1984. Danya Segal, recorder, violinists Anne Röhrig and Ursula Bundies, cellist Albert Brüggen and Harpsichord player Berward Lohr, all leading exponents of their instruments, have joined forces in an ensemble that owes its particular quality to the melding of their individual personalities. For some time, its high artistic niveau, richly differentiated interpretations, flexible use of instruments, and attractive repertoire have led MUSICA ALTA RIPA to be invited to perform at distinguished venues and festivals worldwide.
The ensemble has undertaken concert tours through the Near East and Southeast Asia and has performed for example in Milan, London and Bogotà. Since 1991 the exceptional CDs produced by MUSICA ALTA RIPA have won many awards – among them the DIAPASON D`OR, the ECHO Klassik and the Cannes Classical Award – and have established the ensemble’s own particular emphases: Italian chamber cantatas, instrumental music of the late French baroque, chamber music and concertos from the generation of J.S. Bach’s pupils. Since 2000 three large CD projects dedicated to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach have been completed and are available.
